Imagined themes and music influenced by new wave, indie rock, dream pop, film scores, retro game sounds, and pop nostalgia. Fantastic Quest is the folded corner of the game manual, the cereal-box toy you waited all week to get—and the musical outlet of Paul Fanning, from Australian band Turnstyle.
Echoes of half-remembered TV themes and technicolor fever dreams. Inspired by spirit-duplicator fumes, re-rented videos, Usborne unknowns, after-school television, blu-tacked posters, low-battery Walkmans, and highlighted Britannica entries. Turn the page when you hear the noise.
Paul Fanning has been writing and performing music since 1995 with his Turnstyle bandmates, releasing five albums and three EPs, and supporting both international and national indie acts. Turnstyle is a WAMI award-winning band, with their song Spray Water on the Stereo reaching #16 on the ARIA charts, appearing in the 1999 Hottest 100, and being voted #34 in RTR FM’s 45 Greatest WA Songs. Alice in Wonderland is his first album release as Fantastic Quest, following on from The Cursed Crown EP.
