J.I.D. is a hip-hop artist from East Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up listening to his parents' collection of classic funk and soul records.
He signed with Dreamville Records, a venture of J. Cole's Interscope Records, and made his major label debut in 2017.
In 2018, he was featured on Denzel Curry's "Sirens," demonstrating his success outside of his own creative endeavors.
He released his long-awaited second album, "Dicaprio 2," on October 31st of that year, his birthday. The album received high praise from numerous music magazines and attracted significant attention due to the album's cover photo, which featured an actor who resembled a young Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 2022, he was featured on Imagine Dragons' track "Enemy," which became a huge global hit, furthering his success. Following this smash hit, he released his third studio album, "The Forever Story," featuring numerous guest artists, including Lil Wayne, Yasiin Bey, and Lil Durk. It was ranked on numerous "Best of 2022" lists, including those in Rolling Stone, Complex, GQ, XXL, and Pitchfork, and he also performed an incredible live show on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert.
Building on this momentum, he released the four-song EP, "GDLU (Preluxe)," which included "Animals" featuring Eminem, greatly raising fan expectations. His fourth studio album, "God Does Like Ugly," was released in August 2025. Featuring guest appearances from Clipse, Ciara, Ty Dolla $ign, Vince Staples, Jessie Reyez, and Westside Gunn, the album created a diverse and rich sound. "God Does Like Ugly" quickly became one of the most iconic hip-hop albums of 2025.
His live performances have also earned him high praise, selling out venues around the world and appearing at major festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo.
